How to Choose a WildFinder Car Tent

A few practical factors that decide which car tent fits your vehicle and the way you camp.

Truck bed vs SUV

If you drive a pickup and want to sleep in the bed, choose a truck bed tent. If you drive an SUV, crossover, or minivan, an SUV tent that attaches to the rear hatch or car side is the better match.

Setup style

Pole-frame and inflatable options trade off differently: poles are proven and light, while the inflatable air-beam model sets up in about 2 minutes with a pump and doubles as a ground tent.

Enclosed vs open

For a fully enclosed sleeping room, the dome or 5-9 person family SUV tents are the pick. For an open, shaded living area with no floor, the car-side awning is lighter and more flexible.

Capacity & rear-door type

Match capacity to your group — 2–3 for truck beds, up to 5–9 for the larger SUV tents. SUV tents are designed for upward-lift tailgates, not side-hinged rear doors, so check your vehicle first.

Car Tent FAQs

What is a car tent?

A car tent is a tent designed to work with your vehicle — either pitched inside a pickup truck bed or attached to an SUV’s rear hatch or side. It extends your vehicle into a sleeping or living space and usually works as a standalone tent too.

Which WildFinder car tent should I choose?

Pick a truck bed tent for pickups, or an SUV tent for SUVs, crossovers, and minivans. For the fastest setup, choose the inflatable model; for the most enclosed family space, the 5-9 person SUV tent; for a light open shelter, the car-side awning.

Are WildFinder car tents waterproof?

Yes. Every model uses a PU3000mm-rated waterproof coating with sealed seams, and the tents are built for 4-season use. Real-world rain performance still depends on correct setup, tensioning, and staking in changing conditions.

Do SUV tents fit any vehicle?

The SUV tents fit a wide range of SUVs, crossovers, minivans, and pickups, but they’re designed for upward-lift rear hatches rather than side-hinged doors. Truck bed tents are sized by bed length. Always confirm your vehicle against each product’s fit guidance.

Can car tents be used without the vehicle?

Most can. The inflatable truck tent and the SUV tents can be used as standalone ground tents when detached. This makes them flexible for trips where you don’t always sleep right next to where you park.
